Carlos Bautista
Featured Artist
Carlos Bautista, born in 1969, grew up in a matriarchal family where he learned textile skills. He lived under Chile’s Pinochet dictatorship before moving to New York City, where he witnessed 9/11.
His work is “rooted in tragedy, ironically joyful and lush.” Bautista combines playfulness with color, texture, textiles, and absurdist perspectives. His quilts incorporate nostalgic childhood elements.
Bautista’s works are held in collections across NY, CT, FL, ME, WA, Brazil, Chile, and Hungary.
“Humans are blessed to have artists/empaths...who hold a mirror to our actions, motivations and feelings.”
